About this restoration:

The 1080p source master has been analysed frame by frame
for its original animation cadence (mostly on twos, partly
on ones). Only the unique drawings - 21,087 of the 38,450
frames - went through the AI passes, after which they were
rebuilt exactly to the original timing.

Pass 1 .............: Starlight Mini
Noise reduction and image restoration
on the de-duplicated frames of the
original 1080p master.

Pass 2 .............: Gaia 2 - Detail recovery at 1080p
AI-based restoration and sharpening,
keeping the 1920x1080 resolution and
the original 16:9 aspect ratio.

Pass 3 .............: Colour grading (.cube LUT)
Manual grade exported as a .cube LUT
and applied in 10-bit during the
encode, so the pastel skies are
captured without banding.

Pass 4 .............: H.265 encoding (libx265, CRF 22)
Chunks merged, re-duplicated to the
full cadence and encoded to H.265/HEVC
(Main 10, 10-bit) with x265 at CRF 22
(~7160 kb/s) for a balance between
archival quality and file size.
Colour space: BT.709 (TV range)
Audio: AC-3 48 kHz stereo (original).

The result keeps the soft coloured-pencil texture and
dreamlike movement of the original, now sharper and
cleaner than any previous release - without touching
the hand-drawn soul of the film.
