In Fall From Grace Lindi Ortega has created what could just be the quintessential album of the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of life as an Indie singer. Chock full of promise that borders at times on brilliance, the album is a testimony to never giving up and never giving in. From the first verse of the album's opener, "Stumble and Fall", where Ortega sings, "Lately I've been contemplating/Leaving all of this behind/There's too much worry on my mind/Everyday my heart is breaking/Something's always on the line/And I'm always racing against time" her remarkable vibrato-that hovers in the heavenly realm with the late Jeff Buckley-asserts her angelic authority on such matters.
Fall From Grace, Ortega's second full-length release, is a collection of ten carefully woven songs that intertwine threads of Bob Dylan Nashville Skyline-era country ballads like "Don't Got Time" seamlessly with jukebox worthy rockers such as "Committing Crimes" which would have made Pat Benatar jealous. From the wonderfully wistful "How The Wind Blows" to the delightful toe-taper "Oh Dear" Ortega gives validation to the distinction of being referred to as "Toronto's best kept secret." In the song, "Drift" Ortega sings, "And I try to save you 'cause I cannot let you down." It's a promise that you know she's going to keep. With a voice such as hers it's hard to imagine Lindi Ortega remaining a secret for long.
