I think this is a really good album. Among the large number of Country/Americana album releases some really stand out and for me this is one of them. Melissa Ferrick writes very good songs with excellent, often arresting lyrics and a fine variety of moods from poignant expressions of love/lust to furious break-up songs. They are musically excellent with striking tunes and very good production which gives every song an individual feel.
Ferrick herself is a terrific performer. She has a good voice which she uses brilliantly so that every song is invested with genuine feeling. For example, the sadness and yearning in Everything You Were or the lovely title song are palpable, and the hurt and rage in Overboard is so raw that I found myself thinking that I really, really wouldn't want to annoy this woman. It's great.
