Post Description
CelebrationOfKateMcGarrigle
if true art is defined by the direct communication of the artist"s emotional condition to the audience, then this was art at its pinnacle
yes, it was chaotic - yes, it was occasionally less than note-perfect
but it was a genuine outpouring of raw emotion, naked sorrow, and unrefined joy
few among us remained dry eyed
certainly those on the stage wept openly
a privilege to be in the room at such a personal wake
the acoustics in the RFH are never perfect for anything amplified - the room is built for an orchestra - and we were in the side stalls, by the left PA stack - judge for yourself from the sample below whether this is for you
also, infuriatingly, there is some mobile phone interference during part 2
i"d love to blame someone else, but i suspect i forgot to turn off my own after the interval - apologies
in the track list, i"ve indicated only the principal vocalist on each song - there were often others singing harmony - and musicians came and went with a regularity that defies my addled memory - apologies for that too - anyone with a better recall, please correct or augment mine
first gasp moment - richard and linda thompson singing together publicly for the first time in thirty years
hairs on the back of the neck moment - emmylou and rufus on "i eat dinner"
biggest lump in the throat moment - martha breaking down as she sang "proserpina"s "come home to mother" refrain
a truly wonderful afternoon / evening
